First Report of Citrus Bent Leaf Viroid and Citrus Dwarfing Viroid in Argentina

Citrus Bent Leaf Viroid (CBLVd) and Dwarfing (CDVd), from genus Apscaviroid, are two of the widely distributed citrus viroids among eight reported to date. They have been found induce reduction in canopy volume fruit production trees on trifoliate orange hybrids rootstocks. Moreover, infected only with CBLVd or combinations Exocortis (CEVd), Hop Stunt (HSVd) CDVd associated a poor development root system. Samples showing viroid symptoms collected orchards Tucumán, Salta, Jujuy provinces (NW region Argentina) were initially indexed citron (Citrus medica) then analyzed by s-PAGE. These samples be different species, them, CEVd HSVd already identified. In order determine presence other viroids, we performed RT-PCR assay using specific primers for CBLVd, CDVd, CBCVd CVd-V. Forty including 15 lemons, oranges, 8 grapefruits, 2 citrumelos Cleopatra mandarins so far. On basis amplification appropriately sized DNA, was detected thirty all grapefruit samples. CVd-V not any Analysis sequence amplicons revealed 96% 97% identity GenBank reference sequences, 98% sequences. This is first report Argentina.
